He Tauaa Rugby League Club & Its Not Ok

We found a rugby league club in Southland making a stand for the sake of their families… Part of addressing child abuse in New Zealand is not only standing up for the rights of a child but also by taking responsibility for our own actions: Modelling non-abusive behaviours in the way we treat people in everyday life (even a rugby game ref); Embracing a supportive culture where we can have open discussions about pressures/stress factors we may be facing; and a culture where we can call each other out on behaviour that isn’t right, empowering each other to get help & to be better for the sake of our whānau. He Tauaa Rugby League Club Inc in Southland are leading this example by becoming champions of the It’s not OK Campaign and owning those values as part of their club culture. We were invited to the game and the after speeches + kai yesterday. Man, that was one tense game but more importantly, these guys are leading the way for the next generation. Much credit was given by the team to Karen Ave of Southland Respect Network for working with the club.
